Known Issues

Spotfire® DXP™

·         General

o        No progress indicator on Windows 2000.

o        Application icons sometimes show up transparent.

o        Plot components and worksheets are not resized correctly on 64-bit operating systems when the application is resized.

·         Online Help

o        The Online Helps for Spotfire DXP Beta are still work in progress. There are sometimes gaps or unfinished sections.

o        Help buttons in some dialog does not always link to the correct help page.

·         PDF Manuals

o        All PDF manuals are still work in progress.

o        The following sections of the Server Installation Manual are in good condition:

§         Requirements

§         Install WebLogic/Windows

§         Install WebSphere/Windows.

o        Installation for Solaris has old screenshots.

o        No upgrade scenario can be performed yet.

o        The Spotfire DXP Deployment Manual is in good condition and can be used.

·         Installation

o        When installing on a 64 bit operating system the .NET framework must be pre-installed on the machine.

o        The automatic download mechanism will fail if a restricted user tries to install the application as an administrator.

o        Wrong icon in Add/Remove program for Spotfire DXP on Windows 2000.

·         Data Import

o        It is not possible to import 256 columns from an Excel worksheet (255 will work).

o        When importing data from Excel, the OLE DB driver does not support extraction of value formatting.

o        It is not possible to open a password protected Excel file unless the file is opened in Excel first.

o        When importing data from Excel, the behavior may be slightly different depending on whether the file is open in Excel or not. This may also affect performance.

o        Limited (driver specific) support for 64-bit operating systems.

·         Insert Data and Replace Data

o        When inserting data (rows or columns) into an existing data set, columns generated by the K-means Clustering and Line Similarity tools may not be updated as expected.

o        Can’t replace data if there is a conflict between external name and column name.

o        It is not possible to save the analysis with linked data after performing a Replace Data operation.

·         Data Properties

o        Attempting to rename a column so that its name becomes identical to that of another column in the current data will result in an error.

·                   Filter Panel

o        Drag and dropping filters into collapsed groups may result in an error.

o        Japanese characters are not displayed in group names and checkbox filters.

o        The panel does not auto-scroll to the new filter when line similarity is calculated.

o        Renaming filters to the same name as other columns is not always handled correctly

o        Value labels do not reflect the total selection from all filters when filtered out values is de-selected in multiple checkbox or radio button filters.

o        Selecting rapidly in a hierarchical filter sometimes causes unchecked items to be checked again.

o        The Date picker uses the system locale formatting for dates rather than the formatter that is set for the column.

o        When local filtering is used an error sometimes occurs when all pages but one is removed.

·         Tag Panel

o        Attempting to create a new tag collection when the current data set is empty (i.e., when there are no columns) may result in an error.

o        Using tags in a hierarchy filter may result in an error when the tags are updated.

·         Visualizations

o                    Hardware graphics acceleration is not supported on 64-bit operating systems.

o        Hardware graphics acceleration sometimes crashes when using the parallel coordinate plot on Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller Driver version 6.14.10.3889 and on some related graphics controllers if the drivers are not up to date.  Turn of hardware acceleration by un-checking the checkbox at the bottom of Tools - > Options -> Application.

o        Working with large datasets and many trellis panels is very slow.

o        Error when sorting table after resizing application on 64-bit operating systems.

o        Cross and nest mode does not work in cross table.

o        Selecting Spotfire Categorical color scheme does not restore default coloring unless the Assign colors only checkbox is checked.

o        Log-scale is available on bar chart y-axis even though the bar chart does not support log-scale on its y-axis.

o        Auto-zoom in map is not available when identifier is used to translate data values to map coordinates.

o        Changing coordinate columns when a very large number of unique coordinates are used takes a very long time and no progress is given.

o        Aggregation methods are not set automatically when adding multiple columns to the parallel coordinate plot from the columns property page.

o        It is possible to create a stacked bar chart with non-distributed aggregation methods (e.g. Average, Unique Count etc.). In this case the individual segment values will be correct according to the scale and the height of the bar will be equal to the sum of the segment values.

o        If two differently colored lines are drawn on top of each-other in the parallel coordinate plot or the line chart the bottom line will be highlighted rather than the top line.

o        The straight line fit is not correctly calculated for values that differ only in the 15th decimal.

o        Creating a plot when no page is open will automatically create a new page but an error sometimes occurs if that page is deleted later.

o        Using automatic binning to configure trellis may result in an error for very high numbers of bins.

o        Deleting a column that is used in a visualization and then undoing the deletion may result in an invalid visualization.

o        Pie segments with zero size is not included when lasso marking.

·         Text Area

o        Vertical scrollbar does not show up when shrinking the text area.

o        Not possible to add text if the last item in the Text Area Properties dialog is a link.

o        The Insert Link button is disabled when no text has been entered in the Text Area Properties dialog.

o        Error when leaving the title of the Cover Page blank.

·         Print & Export

o        Details-on-Demand is hard to read when exported to PowerPoint in horizontal mode.

o        Visualizations with thousands of lines or markers take a very long time to render in exported PowerPoint slides.

o        When multiple pages are exported to PowerPoint the filtering is always the same even though local filtering is used.

o        Attempting to export a PowerPoint file that is write-protected will result in an error.

·         Insert Calculated/Binned Column

o        The Insert Binned Column dialog will be improved in terms of usability and cosmetic enhancements.

·         Line Similarity and K-means Clustering

o        Trying to run Line Similarity or K-means Clustering using a Line Chart with Line by (Column Names) may cause an error.

o        Overwriting existing result columns generated by the Line Similarity and K-means Clustering tools may not always work as expected.

o        Some instability issues might occasionally be observed when using the Line Similarity and K-means Clustering tools in combination with insert data, replace data and similar operations.

·         Preferences

o        No validation of preference values, i.e., it is possible to enter invalid preference values.

o        Assigning preferences to the Everyone group does not get propagated to sub-groups.

o        Reset to default settings in the Tools -> Options dialog can not be cancelled.

·         Menu System

o        Menus sometimes jump when navigating using the keyboard arrow keys.

·         Save and Load

o        It is not possible to cancel an open file operation.

o        The number of file and data open drop zones are limited if a file is already opened.

·         Deployment

o        The deployment tool does not show extended character sets correctly.

Spotfire® Information Services

·         General

o        Several error messages will be improved in terms of format and content.

·         Elements

o        Some stability issues may be experienced when working with procedure elements, for example when trying to execute an unsaved Information Link with a procedure element.

·         Information Links

o        Executing an Information Link that contains a reference to a deleted join may cause an error.

o        Previously used parameter values are currently ignored when opening an analysis file referencing a prompted Information Link and prompting on re-execution is suppressed (this option is available when saving an analysis to file).

·         Import and Export Information Model

o        Trying to export an Information Model to a path that does not exist, e.g., an unknown or invalid drive, may cause an error.
