TIBCO is pleased to announce the general availability of Spotfire version 3.1 and Spotfire Statistics Services 3.1 giving you the power to make better and smarter decisions. Designed for both existing and new users, these releases bring together advanced statistical analytic capabilities with flexible application development tools, while at the same time furthering Spotfire’s core visual data exploration functionality.

Advanced Analytics Supporting S+ and R

Spotfire Statistics Services 3.1

The release of Spotfire Statistics Services 3.1 unlocks the power of statistics and makes advanced statistical models easily available to Spotfire users who are non-statisticians. TIBCO Spotfire 3.1 can now be integrated with the Statistics Services through a seamless, UI-driven interface. The Spotfire Statistics Services also can now execute both S+ and R based models, opening up far greater possibilities and providing greater flexibility to organizations who wish to employ advanced analytics across the enterprise.

Statisticans and quants can build their models in S+ and/or R and centrally deploy them on the Spotfire Statistics Services. (The Spotfire Statistics Services is the latest release of the S+ server, but brings new capabilities to execute R and integrate with Spotfire.) TIBCO Spotfire users, using Professional, Web Player or Enterprise Player, can then simply access the library of models residing in the Statistics Services and can employ them in their analyses. Computation occurs on the server, allowing for a single, powerful computational engine serving many clients.

Superior Data Exploration and Analysis

Bar and Line Plot

A new combination Bar and Line plot gives TIBCO Spotfire® Professional, Web Player and Enterprise Player users the ability to superimpose multivariable data in the form of either a bar or a line, in a single visualization. A powerful example of this visualization would be a moving average as a line superimposed on bars showing the raw data.

Conditional Coloring

New conditional coloring further enhances the visual data exploration capabilities of Spotfire by allowing a user to immediately see data that corresponds to a color-associated grouping or threshold level. Conditional coloring is fully integrated with the dynamic filtering scheme, giving a user a fully interactive and intuitive experience while maintaining the conditional coloring rules.

Lasso Marking

Lasso Marking enables a user to now select the points of interest on a visualization in a free-form manner, without being restricted to just vertical or horizontal limitations. This enables a user to more clearly focus on their data of interest, improving time to decisions.

Heat Map & Dendrogram

A heat map is equivalent to a table or spreadsheet which contains colors instead of numbers. Heat maps are well-suited for visualizing large amounts of multi-dimensional data and can be used to identify clusters of rows with similar values, as these are displayed as areas of similar color. 

Platform for Analytic Applications

User Interface Controls for creating sophisticated Analytic Applications

New User Interface controls are available within text areas that can change the value of a parameter in an application. These easy-to-configure controls allow an application builder to effectively ‘guide’ the consumer to perform more meaningful analyses. Controls include drop-down lists, listboxes, slides , labels and text input fields. Configuration of these controls is UI-driven, without the need for extensive programming skills. If further extensibility is required, the new UI controls have the ability to execute IronPython scripting and data functions. These new controls can tie into parameters in Spotfire, allowing for intuitive ‘what-if’ analyses and facilitating guided analytics.

How to Upgrade to Spotfire 3.1

License Administrators:

Accounts with current maintenance agreements using their predefined download credentials should download the latest Spotfire software from the TIBCO download site at http://download.tibco.com

Users:

End users should contact their organization’s TIBCO Spotfire® Server Administrator to determine when their site will be ready to upgrade and deploy to the latest release. Once deployed on the Spotfire® Server, TIBCO Spotfire clients on previous versions will automatically update after next login.
